Jaishankar Discusses Border Disengagement with Chinese Counterpart at G20 Summit

The meeting between Jaishankar and Wang came a month after the meeting of PM Modi and Chinese President Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Russia.

Rio de Janeiro: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday held talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on margins of G20 Summit in Brazil capitla city Rio de Janeiro.

y noted progress in recent disengagement in Lakh and exchanged views on next steps in bilateral ties, according to External Affairs Minister who shared details of his meeting on social media platform X.

"On sidelines of G20 Summit in Rio, met CPC Politburo member and FM Wang Yi of China," Jaishankar said in his X post. He said that two leers "noted progress in recent disengagement in India-China border areas".

Jaishankar also said that India and China exchanged views on next steps in bilateral ties between two countries and h a discussion on global situation.

meeting between Jaishankar and Wang Yi came a month after meeting of Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on sidelines of BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia.

Prime Minister Modi during meeting h stated that ties between two nations are important for people of India and China and for regional and global peace and stability.

sentiment was also reiterated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who h earlier said, "At some areas along LAC, discussions have been ongoing between India and China at both diplomatic and military levels to resolve conflicts.

Following recent talks, re has been a bro consensus to restore ground situation. This consensus has developed on basis of equal and mutual security. agreement includes rights related to patrolling and grazing in tritional areas".

He ded, "Based on this consensus, disengagement process is nearly complete. We will strive to move beyond just disengagement, but for that, we will need to wait a little longer."

This came after both India and China confirmed that an agreement h been reached between two nations regarding patrolling arrangements along Line of Actual Control (LAC) in India-China border areas.

border standoff between India and China began in eastern Lakh along LAC in 2020, sparked by Chinese military actions. This incident led to prolonged tensions between two nations, significantly straining ir relations.

Meanwhile, India and China are set to mark 75 years of diplomatic relations.
