A Brooklyn-based MSCHF brand customized white Nike Air Max 97s with holy water which got sold out within a few minutes, for a whopping $3,000. The sneakers were filled with actual holy water from the River Jordan and a crucifix was threaded through the laces. The sole injected with holy water so that one can literally walk on water like Jesus. The limited-edition shoes with its distinctive features apart from holy water and crucifix helped it go out of stock within minutes.
Bible verse Matthew 14:25 inscribed
The shoes have red insoles to call back the Vatican tradition and the Bible verse Matthew 14:25, that describes the passage of Jesus on water, has been inscribed on it. The brand’s head of commerce Daniel Greenberg told an American daily that it was an outcome of “collab culture”.
“We thought of that Arizona Iced Tea and Adidas collab, where they were selling shoes that (advertised) a beverage company that sells iced tea at bodegas,” a news channel quoted Daniel Greenberg. “So we wanted to make a statement about how absurd collab culture has gotten,” he added.
Shoebox complementing the content
Other features of the shoe also include frankincense-scented insoles and a single blood drop to represent the blood of Christ. The shoe has been packaged in a way to complement its content and its features. The shoebox has an angel and a seal resembling the official papal seal, an insignia that represents official items of attire and decoration proper to the Pope. Though Greenberg denied any future plan to manufacture more such shoes, the founder of the brand Gabriel Whaley hinted a ‘second coming’ of the ‘Jesus shoes’ in future.
Nike's record price
In July this year, Nike's 1972 'Moon Shoe' sneakers were sold for $437,500, setting a world record. "The 1972 Nike Waffle Racing Flat 'Moon Shoe,' the last remaining pair in Sotheby's Stadium Goods: the Ultimate Sneaker Collection, achieved $437,500 earlier today, setting a new world auction record for a pair of sneakers," Sotheby's informed from its official Twitter account.
