Washington: US President Joe Biden was seen wearing a red hat of Trump's Campaign on Wednesday during a visit to a fire station in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where he interacted with first responders at an event a marking the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks.

The hat, a red ‘Trump 2024’ cap, was handed to Biden by a Trump supporter in the event, who said while handing over the cap, “I'm proud of you now, you old fart.”  Video footage of the moment was shared by conservative influencer Benny Johnson, showing Biden briefly donning the hat.

The footage quickly made rounds on social media, with the Trump-Vance campaign sharing it.

However, the Trump War Room account posted the video on X, seemingly edited to show Biden putting on the hat rather than taking it off, with the caption, “Kamala did so bad in last night’s debate, Joe Biden just put on a Trump hat.”

The White House later confirmed that Biden had worn the hat in a spirit of bipartisanship. Andrew Bates, the White House senior deputy press secretary, wrote on X, "At the Shanksville Fire Station, @POTUS spoke about the country’s bipartisan unity after 9/11 and said we needed to get back to that."

Earlier that day, Biden had brought beer and pizza to the firehouse after attending a wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial to United Airlines Flight 93. The flight, downed by Al Qaeda hijackers on 9/11 with 40 people aboard, is remembered for its passengers' heroic attempt to storm the cockpit, preventing the jet from crashing into a possible target like the White House or the US Capitol.

Shanksville, located in Somerset County, is a heavily Republican area, where more than 77% of voters supported Trump in the 2020 election.

Ironically, in a recent debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump had joked about sending Harris one of his signature red "Make America Great Again" hats. "Everything she believed three or four years ago is out the window," Trump said. "In fact, I was going to send her a ‘MAGA’ hat. She’s going to my philosophy."

Biden, who ended his 2024 presidential run on July 21, had consistently criticized Trump for threatening the nation’s democratic foundation. In a 2022 speech, Biden remarked, “Too much of what’s happening in our country today is not normal. Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic.”
