A protest led by women rights activists in Kabul turned violent after the Taliban forces prevented them from marching towards the presidential palace.

According to Tolo News, insurgent group prevented demonstrations from continuing by spraying tear gas. women in Kabul have been staging protests, demanding equal rights and opportunities, inclusion in work and education under new government. 

Friday’s demonstration marked second day of protest. women activists std protests seeking equal rights and ensuring decision-making roles for m in political life in country that has been taken over by militants. However, Taliban attacked peaceful women protesters, which resulted in two women sustaining injuries.

Women demand decision-making roles in govt

According to ANI, women’s rights activists in Kabul has asked new Afghanistan government, which will reportedly be heed by Taliban co-founder Mullah Barar, to ensure decision-making roles for women in future government. Afghan women have been calling for recognition of women’s political, ecomic and social rights. On Thursday, dozens of Afghan women also held demonstrations in western Afghan city of Herat. 

Experts believe that women in war-torn nation are most likely to face an uncertain future under Taliban regime. In recent weeks, insurgent group has also been sending mixed signals about women working. Back in August, group’s spokesman, Zabiullah Mujahid, h said that women who work with government should stay at home until y can ensure ir safety on streets and in offices.

Taliban have banned many women from working outside and girls from attending schools or universities. But group has, however, asked female healthcare workers to return to work. According to a Taliban spokesman, women can continue to serve in government positions in Afghanistan, but y will t be guaranteed cabinet or or prominent roles. When asked if women and ethnic mirities would be allowed to serve in future Afghan government, deputy he of Taliban political office in Qatar h told BBC that prominent positions in new ministration would be chosen on merit.
