Iran closes key religious sites in a bid to contain coronavirus outbreak
4 key Shiite pilgrimage sites were closed by Iran in an attempt to stop the coronavirus outbreak which has killed more than 850 people in the country.

According to reports, state media anunced that shrined were closed until furr tice and ir closure was ordered by anti-coronavirus hequarters and Irans health minister. Qom’s Jamkaran mosque also said that it would close its doors soon. Since viruses discovery in Qom in month of February, coronavirus has spre to all of Iran’s 31 provinces. Qom remains one of worst-hit regions by coronavirus, followed by Tehran and Khorasan Razavi. disease has killed at least 12 Iranian politicians and officials and infected 13 more that have been quarantined or are currently being treated.
Death of a cleric
Ayatollah Hashem Bathaie Golpayegani h died of COVID-19 infection on March 16. According to reports, 78-year-old was a high-ranking clergyman and also one of 88 members of Assembly of Experts which is a key government body of top clergyman which chooses Iran's Supreme Leer.
