Kim holds meeting of new Central Committee

North Korean state television continued its special broadcast of the ruling party's landmark Congress meetings Tuesday, showing leader Kim Jong Un leading a top meeting of the Workers' Party new Central Committee. The event took place on Sunday, according to North Korea's official state media report, but it's not unusual for TV news to come out days later.

Unlike the past week's Congress gatherings, this time Kim Jong Un appeared alone at the front of the meeting. The audience was made up of members of the Workers' Party 8th Central Committee, as well as officials from other institutions around the country, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.

Kim highlighted the need "to tighten discipline" within the ranks of the ruling Workers' Party, in order "to root out abuse of power, bureaucratic practices, irregularities and corruption," KCNA said, repeating the use of the word "discipline" nineteen times in an article of 833 words covering the committee meeting.

Since Kim Jong Un was put in charge of North Korea at the end of 2011, there has been a return to the observance of socialist-style ruling party routine, with renewed emphasis in state media repeatedly showing the venues and gatherings of top officials including Kim.
