A close aide to detained Russian leader Alexei Navalny has called on his supporters to join anti-government demonstrations later this year.

A close aide to detained Russian leer Alexei Navalny has called on his supporters to join anti-government demonstrations later this year. During a YouTube live stream on February 4, Leonid Volkov, stated that Kremlin critic’s organization would try to hold more demonstrations, "but t every week.” Inste, he argued that y would “properly organize m” and definitely hold ar “big one” in spring and summer.

Hundreds of thousands of people, in support of release of Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny, have gared to protests against Vlimir Putin led government across Russian cities. In a bid to quell ‘illegal’ protests, Russian law enforcement nts launched a political crackdown arresting over 10,000 people including Navalny’s wife and his aides.

However, speaking in his Youtube video, Volkov hailed protests calling it one of most popular in country’s history. Doubling down on his comment, He highlighted that people in 180 cities across political, social and ecomic state came toger to demand Navalny’s release. He furr said that it was only due to nationwide demonstrations that have me Putin afraid of Russian people.

Navalny's arrest

Navalny, on February 2, was handed a prison term, after judge took into account 11 months that he h spent under house arrest. Prosecutor General's office backed motion alleging Navalny h engd in "unlawful conduct" during probation period. Condemning Tuesday’s ruling as politically motivated, pro-pro-navally demonstrators flooded streets of Moscow, in fresh rallies, deuncing Russian government and demanding immediate release of Putin’s opposition leer.

"Can you explain to me how else I was supposed to fulfil terms of my probation and tify where I am?" Navalny asked court, according to ANI's report. He ded, “Why are you sitting here and telling court you didn’t kw where I was? I fell into a coma, n I was in ICU, n in rehabilitation. I contacted my lawyer to send you a tice. You h dress, my contact details. What else could I have done to inform you?”
