Lebanon Rocked by Mass Pager Bombs: What We Know So Far | 10 Points

Lebanon: Several people have been killed while dozens were injured after first of its kind ‘pager attack’ rocked Lebanon on Tuesday, leaving people  in panic and trauma. Various media reports hints at hacking and simultaneous undermining of Hezbollah's encrypted communications network. The injured have suffered severed fingers, severe burns, and other blast injuries. The government has asked pager owners to dispose them immediately. Lebanon has accused Israel's hand behind the attack. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has held a meeting with senior security officials after pager explosions in Lebanon.

Mass pager bombs rock Lebanon: What we know so far?

1. Simultaneous detonations of pager devices occurred in Lebanon's capital of Beirut and several other cities. 
2. Atleast 8 people have died including an MPs son while thousands are injured.
3. According to the Lebanese health minister, over 2,800 were injured, and 200 of the injured are in critical condition. Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon Mojtaba Amani is among the injured.
4. Reports further said that the attack mainly targeted devices carried by Hezbollah members.
5. Local media reported that the detonation of the devices happened due to a “high-tech impact.”
6. Pager began exploding around 3:30 pm due to simultaneous remote attacks, after a possible hacking of systems.
7. The highest number of incidents was recorded in Beirut's Dahieh neighborhood, the Beqaa Valley and southern Lebanon.
8. Lebanon has accused and alleged the role of Israel behind this saying the pagers were allegedly hacked by Israeli intelligence services, causing the batteries to overheat and then explode.
9. The exploded devices came from a new shipment that Hezbollah had recently received in recent days, the Wall Street Journal reported. 
10. Hezbollah, however, said it had not yet determined the reasons behind the mass explosion.
