Libya's eastern side witnesses rare wave of protests, parliament calls emergency meeting
Libya's parliament convened an emergency meeting on Saturday, September 12 to address a rare wave of protests on the eastern side of the nation.

Libya's parliament convened an emergency meeting on Saturday, September 12 to dress a rare wave of protests on eastern side of nation fueled by worsening living conditions in war-torn region. As per reports, protests taking place in east, which is controlled by UN-back government are similar to ones taking place on western side, which is controlled Haftar forces.

Rare protest in east Libya
As per reports, due to area’s crippling electricity shorts, hundreds of Libyan youth have taken to streets of Benghazi and or eastern cities. Protestors have reportedly set piles of tires ablaze and have also begun blocking traffic while chanting lyrics from popular songs that speak out against government corruption in country.
demonstrations in Benghazi, and or eastern cities, are reported to mirror protests in Libyan capital of Tripoli and or western cities -- one major difference being protests in eastern side do t appear to be centrally organised as is case for western side. Moreover, protests in east were soon forcibly dispersed by authorities.

According to reports, during emergency meeting, House of Representatives attempted to deflect blame for poor living conditions on Tripoli-based Central bank and alleged that it h purposefully neglected east. In an effort to placate protestors House of Representatives promised to investigate “suspected corruption” and expedite municipal elections.

Libya has been in midst of a violent civil war since 2014 and as a result, has been essentially bifurcated into two automous regions, military commander Khalifa Hifter who is commander-in-chief of Libyan National Army rules east and south backed by United Arab Emirates, while an UN-supported government based in Tripoli controls west.
