Mexico's President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador painted an upbeat picture of how Mexico is coping with the coronavirus and the global recession on Tuesday during his address to the United Nations General Assembly.
He stated that Mexico "is making progress" in terms of combating the coronavirus pandemic.
"The formula is to not allow for corruption and theft, not to allow for luxury in government and thus free up funds for development," said Lopez Obrador, speaking of his campaign against government corruption.
He also issued a veiled swipe at US President Donald Trump, who began his first presidential campaign by calling Mexicans 'rapists'.
"Those who conquer, those who dominate, those who colonize, are not always try to justify their atrocities by denigrating, disqualifying the first peoples by calling them barbarians or savages," Lopez Obrador said.
