Man catches giant bluefin tuna worth 3 million euros; releases it back

Dave Edwards caught a giant bluefin tuna worth 3 million euros as part of a catch and release program, tagged the fish, and released it back into the water

On September 28, a huge bluefin tuna weighing 600lbs and eight and a half feet long is biggest caught tuna fish from off coast of Ireland this year. It was reported that Bluefin tuna was worth millions of pounds and despite that, fish catcher released fish back to sea.

According to reports fish was approximately worth €3m (£2.6m). discovery happened during a catch and release program where several boats on Ireland’s south and west coasts participated to count number of bluefin tuna left as stock of fish seems to be grually decreasing. crew reported that y were t out re hunting fish for commercial purpose.

Big bluefin tuna common in Donegal Bay

fish was caught by David Edwards of Courtmacsherry-based West Cork Charters from three miles south of base in sourn Ireland. animal was tagged before release. Edwards while talking to international media said that such bluefin tuna are common in Donegal Bay where y follow  herring. tuna is more unusual in bay and seem bigger once y show up. He ackwledged that one he caught was really a big fish.

Edward posted pictures on Facebook

Edwards posted photos of wonderful fish on his Facebook p and said thanks to his group including Darren O'Sullivan from Cork city and Dutch angler Henk Veldman. A day earlier y h a considerably even bigger fish snared, however, neglected to get fish after reel failed. Writing on Facebook about effective catch, Edwards stated, “Finally!!! Got first Bluefin Tuna to be caught, tagged and released on South Coast of Ireland. 102 inches long is 5-600lb in weight and well done to my crew for day, Darren O’Sullivan, Henk Veldman, and John Dillon, great job ls.”

Responding to a comment asking if size of fish was due to “a global warming effect”, Edwards replied: “More of a case of curbing massive Japanese fleet that was targeting [m] a few years back.”

Bluefin fish is a prized rare delicacy in Japan, where a single fish weighing 278kg – a comparative size to one Edwards reeled in – was sold for 333.6 million yen (£2.5m) in January this year. fish is winding up progressively uncommon mainly due to overfishing. It is recorded as endangered by International Union for Conservation of Nature. Programs like catch and release help to keep a track of number of fishes left. Commercial use of endangered species should be restricted.
