Iran: Man who posted video of missile striking Ukrainian plane arrested

Iran on January 14 said that it had arrested the person who posted a video online last week of a missile striking the Ukrainian jetliner with 176 people aboard.

Iran on January 14 has reportedly stated that it h arrested person who posted a video online last week of a missile striking Ukrainian jetliner. According to an international media report, person, who was taken into custody by elite Revolutionary Guards, will be facing charges related to national security. Iranian judiciary also anunced that y have also me arrest of several people over incident. 

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a televised speech furr said that everyone responsible for downing of Ukrainian passenger plane must be punished. He furr ded that for people of Iran it is very important that whoever responsible for negligence at any level must be punished. After initially denying its involvement in crash, Iran on January 11 mitted that it accidentally shot down jetliner because of a human error.

Rouhani also said that a special court should be assembled comprising of ranking judges and dozens of experts. He described incident a painful and unforgivable mistake and vowed that his ministration would do everything in its power to uncover truth.

Rouhani ded that person responsible was surely more than one person and all those found guilty should be punished. He also said that this was ordinary case and that whole world would be watching case. Rouhani has called Iranian mission of guilt with regards to shooting down plane a 'first good step'.

Iran mits to downing plane

Iran which earlier vehemently denied claims that y mistakenly shot down jet and accused United States of 'spreing lies' about intelligence suggesting y did, on January 11, ackwledged that it 'unintentionally' shot down Ukrainian jetliner. A military statement carried by state media said that plane was mistaken for a “hostile target” after it turned towards a “sensitive military centre” of Revolutionary Guard.

“ military was at its highest level of reiness amid heightened tensions with US. In such a condition, because of human error and in an unintentional way, flight was hit.” Iran apologised for disaster and said it would upgre its systems to prevent such mistakes in future. responsible parties would be referred to a judicial department within military and held accountably, military said.
