Mexico has jumped above 50,000 dead from COVID-19

According to Mexico's health authorities, the country's COVID-19 death toll has escalated to more than 50,000 fatalities, after 819 new deaths were reported in one day.

According to Mexico's health authorities, country's COVID-19 death toll has escalated to more than 50,000 fatalities, after 819 new deaths were reported in one day.

Assistant Health Secretary Hugo Lopez-Gatell said that total number of deaths from COVID-19 in nation h risen to 50,517.

That is third-highest death toll in world, behind only United States and Brazil.

Authorities also reported 6,590 new confirmed coronavirus cases, bringing total to 462,690.

However, number of infections is thought to be far higher because many people have t been tested, and studies suggest people can be infected with virus without feeling sick.

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obror said intensity of pandemic was "alrey decreasing little by little" but t as rapidly as y "would like it to."
