Mexico: Tour guide found dead 2 days after death of Monarch butterfly activist

Raul Hernandez, a tour guide at butterfly reserve was reported missing by his family on January 27 after he left home in the town of San Pedro Libertad.

Body of a tour guide was found only two days after a prominent monarch butterfly activist was found de in Mexico. Raul  Hernandez was reported missing by his family on January 27 after he left home in town of San Pedro Libert, state prosecutor said in a statement. This comes as threats and murders of environment and human rights activists are on a rise. 

Police are investigating murder 

According to local authorities, Hernandez was found beaten and with a he injury possibly caused by a sharp object. police are said to be investigating murder, as reported by a leing international news daily. tour guide was found in early hours of Saturday in Ocampo Municipality about 8 km from Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve where he worked.

incident comes only two days after Homero Gomez Gonzalez was found de in a well in state of Michoacan, where butterfly reserve is located. Gonzalez was found de only two weeks after he vanished. His death has sparked throughout rth American country.  Gonzalez, who fought to defend monarch butterfly’s wintering grounds from illegal logging, mand El Rosario butterfly sanctuary located inside Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve.

Michoacan Human Right Commission has urged authorities to investigate if his death was connected to butterfly reserve, international media reported. Gonzalez was probably hurting business interest of people illegally logging in area said Mayta Cardone, an official at reserve. But an official at National Commission of Natural Protected Area told international media that his organisation did t believe that his death was related to his conservation efforts.
