Mike Pompeo threatens to never restore WHO funds, hints at alternative body

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warned that Washington may never restore funding of World Health Organisation (WHO) and could even set up an alternative to UN agency that will deliver on intended purposes. Pompeo’s comment came when Democrats of House of Representative called for immediate restoration of WHO funding which US President Donald Trump halted last week.

Trump h accused UN health agency of being “China-centric” and in cahoots with Beijing on covering up mishandling of virus outbreak. However, House Democrats have blamed US President of using WHO as a “scapegoat” to distract nation from his own handling of pandemic.

In a rio interview on April 23, Pompeo hinted at “reform” questioning ability of WHO to perform its primary function. top diplomat said that leers of United States have an obligation to make sure that taxpayers’ money is spent with institutions and on projects that actually deliver outcomes that y are intended to deliver.

'Need to review'

When asked about wher ministration is looking to move on to a new parigm, State Secretary said that re is a need to review wher current structure of WHO fit for purpose. Pompeo said that when institution is failing to get desired outcomes, US is going to work with partners around world to deliver a structure that will actually deliver on intended purposes.

WHO has been under fire over its handling of coronavirus and accusations have been levelled on it for being “China-centric”. However, health agency has continuously insisted that it sounded alarm on novel coronavirus right from very start and h hidden nothing about dely virus.
