Millions of 17-year cicadas will emerge from the ground this year. People in Southwest Virginia, parts of North Carolina and West Virginia could witness them

Soon after  giant hornets threatened to inve  United States creating helines, ar insect swarm is on its way to country. As per reports, millions of 'cicas' will emerge this year after '17-years underground'. While cicas are harmless to humans directly, ir negative effects are likely to include and go beyond  ise y make which is a well-documented nuisance.

As many as 1.5 million cicas per acre may emerge, and people living in Southwest Virginia, parts of rth Carolina and West Virginia could witness this unique phemen, Virginia Tech said in a news release.

Communities and farms with large numbers of cicas emerging at once may have a substantial ise issue, said Eric Day, Virginia Cooperative Extension entomologist in Virginia Tech's Department of Entomology.

Cicas, which are large insects, are kwn to occur periodically. However, upcoming swarm is table even among ir species for long time period among cycles, seemingly on account of keeping ir emergence out of sync with predator cycle. Wher or t y impact humans directly, y are certain to be a dirge on crop plantations.
