Police spotted Shah leaving leaving Pandey's apartment in the CCTV footage on Saturday.
New Delhi: Days after a 21-year-old student from Nepal was found dead at her Houston apartment, police have arrested an Indian-origin man in connection with the case.
According to police, the woman was shot dead allegedly by an Indian-origin man, identified as Bobby Sinh Shah (52), at her apartment in US during an attempted robbery. It is currently not known whether Shah and Pandey knew each other prior to the incident.
For the unversed, the victim Muna Pandey, was fond lying motionless with multiple gunshot wounds on her body on Monday.
According to sources, the staff at her apartment complex told police that they received an anonymous call about a body inside the apartment. When the police reached the spot, the body of community college student was recovered, prompting them to launch an investigation into her death.
During probe, police also scanned CCTV footage to get a significant lead in the case. Later, police spotted Shah leaving leaving Pandey's apartment in the CCTV footage on Saturday.
Two days later, cops released a photo of Shah and he was arrested later that day at a traffic stop. Shah has been charged with murder.
According to a GoFundMe page, Pandey had shifted to US to study at the Houston Community College from Nepal in 2021. Her mother had been trying to reach out to her for days before her body was found inside her apartment, according to media reports.
The GoFundMe page mentioned that Pandey was the only child of her parents. It added that her mother, Anita, is struggling to fly to US due to fund crunch.
"We are reaching out to you, our community, to help bring Anita to the United States so she can say goodbye to her only child and give Muna the farewell she deserves. The funds raised will be used to cover the costs of Muna's funeral and to bring her mother to Houston to be with her daughter's body for the final rituals," reads the GoFundMe page that has raised nearly $30,000 so far.
An investigation into the murder is underway.
