Namibia: Renovation work at Hosea Kutako International Airport edges closer to completion
The flagship airport of Namibia will have specialised equipment like luggage handling and reclamation, which will be operationalised by the end of next month.

On Sunday, Namibia Airports Company (NAC) spokesman Dan Kamati anunced that rehabilitation work at nation's flagship airport, Hosea Kutako International Airport, will be finished shortly, providing nation's tourism business with a different appearance. Hosea Kutako International Airport is Namibia's primary international airport, functioning in Windhoek, country's capital.
As per Xinhua, Kamati stated that actual targeted date for completion of congestion alleviation initiative is planned for end of September 2021. NAC spokesperson also ted that development at nation's main airport is done while keeping in mind fact that it has to match international standards set by or airport terminals across globe. He went on to say that airport extension would help improve country's im among visitors at a time when tourism has collapsed due to COVID pandemic.

According to Nambian, airport will have specialised equipment like lugg handling and bagg claiming, which will be approved and operationalised by end of next month. Kamati also ded that initiative included extension of terminal amenities for domestic, VIP, and VVIP flights. For this initiative, Nexus Contractors are working on this project in collaboration with or 100% Namibian-maintained sub-contracting and specialised consulting firms.

construction budget is nearly N$95 million, which is provided by NAC, while remainder is funded by treasury of nation. initiative has aimed to double airport's processing capacity in order to meet growing passenger traffic. processing capacity will include an expansion of 18 check-in desks, an extra five self-service check-in kiosks, an expansion of departure security checkpoint stations, and an enhancement of bagg reclamation facilities.

Namibian furr reports that proposal also allows for increase of departure immigration desks from three to seven, as well as an expansion of departure lounge to handle rising passenger traffic at airport. In case of arrivals, revated departure lounge will have more moving area and 17 immigration desks, an increase from existing eight.
