Nepal: NC voices concerns over different bills, may stall Parliament
The mountainous country of Nepal seems to be facing a political storm after Parliamentary Party (PP) of Nepali Congress (NC) said it will stall Parliament.

NC's main issue with se bills is if y are t amended y may curtail freedom of expression.

NC urges government to modify bills that violate spirit and provisions of constitution, party said. Bal Krishna Khand of NC told Nepalese media that y are against Nepali Communist Party's (NCP) intend to unanimously proceed with amendment of controversial bills to retain provisions that allowed foreign women married to Nepali men to obtain Nepali citizenship immediately after marri.
"Some ruling NCP lawmakers are arguing that provisions related to marital naturalization should be changed and foreign women married to Nepali men should be me to wait for some years before y get ir naturalized citizenship. This is irrational and we will t accept ir arguments," Khand said. "If a waiting period is introduced for obtaining marital naturalization, n foreign women married to Nepali men might t get a share of ir husband's property before y obtain ir citizenship r will y enjoy reproductive health rights," he ded. Khand also alleged that Information Techlogy Bill h restrictive provisions that could curtail press freedom and citizens' freedom of expression."Information Techlogy Bill intends t only to restrict online media but also discours people from criticizing public post holders. We cant support such provisions," he said. NC wants those provisions to be excluded from bill, he ded.

'Will stall Parliament'
Moreover, NC leer said that his party would also stall parliament proceedings if ruling party did t modify provisions of NHRC Act (Amendment) Bill and National Security Council Bill in Parliament Secretariat. "We are also against bill that proposes to give prime minister-led committee power to handle mega projects worth over Rs 25 billion", NC leer said. Meanwhile, NCP Chief Whip Dev Pras Gurung said his party h put bills opposed by NC on hold."We have passed almost all bills on basis of consensus with opposition parties and want to do same with or bills. NC should t think of opting extreme measure of stalling House proceedings," he ded.
