A plane has crashed near the Kathmandu airport in Nepal. The aircraft has been identified as Bangladesh passenger aircraft which reportedly "became unstable" while descending.

A Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 passenger plane has crashed near the Kathmandu airport in Nepal. The aircraft has been identified as Bangladesh passenger aircraft which reportedly "became unstable" while descending. 

The Dhaka-Kathmandu-bound flight BS-211 which crashed at the East side of the runway of Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport belonged to US-Bangla Airlines.

Emerging reports also state that it is a turbo-propped passenger aircraft and the time of crash is being reported as 2:20 pm on Monday afternoon.

The passenger plane reportedly had the call sign S2-AGU.

While casualties are being feared, there's yet to be an official confirmation of the same. 

Update at 15:04 pm: In a first reported official response, Tourism Ministry Joint Secretary Suresh Acharya has said, 17 injured passengers have been rescued and sent to different hospitals for treatment, as per the Kathmandu Post

The duty officer at the Airport has said that there is no confirmation of fatalities yet.

There is also confirmation that Kathmandu Airport has shut its services temporarily following the crash

Update at 15:12 pm: 14 injured passengers taken to hospital. There were reportedly 71 persons on board. Rescue operations continue

Update at 15:30 pm: 24 passengers rescued from site, according to Duty officer. Aircraft heading to Kathmandu airport diverted to Kolkata, Lucknow and other airports

Update at 16:01 pm: As per Nepal's Civil Aviation ministry spokesperson, 20 people are yet to be rescued. The aircraft couldn't align itself with the runway and crashed

The government has formed an inquiry board, he added while speaking to Republic TV.
