Nepal president gives nod for Prabhu Ram Sharma as new Army Chief
Nepal government has appointed Prabhu Ram Sharma as Chief of the Nepal Army, the newly appointed Army Chief will take office on September 9, 2021.

Nepal government has appointed Prabhu Ram Sharma as Chief of Army Staff. This comes after cabinet raised name of Sharma as most eligible person to hold topmost rank in Nepal Army. Nepal President Bidya Devi Bhandari agreed with cabinet's request and approved name of veteran soldier. In July, cabinet held a meeting to appoint new army chief, as incumbent army he, Purna Chandra Thapa, was taking leave from August 8. newly appointed Army Chief will take office on September 9, 2021.
Nepal government appoints Prabhu Ram Sharma as new Nepal Army Chief
new Army Chief, Prabhu Ram Sharma, is an alumnus of National Defense College in India and hails from Kathmandu. He marked his entry into Nepal Army as a member of Pura Gorakh Battalion. tably, Sharma is going to be first Army Chief to come from Brahmin community in Nepal's history. He holds a master's degree in history from Tribhuwan University and a master of philosophy in Defense and Strategic Studies from University of Mras.

Chief of Army Staff is supreme leer and chief executive of Nepalese Armed Forces. Army Chief directly reports to Defense Ministry and is appointed for a tenure of only 3 years. In Nepal, selection of Army Chief is only done by President on recommendations of Council of Ministers of Nepal and can only be removed by President. Earlier, Nepal welcomed its new Prime Minister, Sher Bahur Deuba, after former PM K P Sharma Oli stepped down from position.
