Here's why people are getting two different answers:
Interestingly, both 1 and 16 are correct answers. The confusion is occurring because of the differences in teaching and learning styles of people around the world. Since part of the world teaches BODMAS and part teaches PEMDAS the answer of a simple algebraic equation can be quite confusing at times. According to BODMAS the Brackets comes first followed by Division, Multiplication, Addition, and Subtraction. In certain regions, PEMDAS which stands for Parentheses, Exponents, Division, Multiplication, Addition, and Subtraction is followed and it is a synonym of BODMAS. It explains the order of operations to solve an expression. If one solves the equation following BODMAS, the answer is 16 and if you do PEMDAS, the answer is 1.
