German-American scientist Maria Goeppert Mayer became second person in 1963 to receive bel prize in physics. She was given award for proposing nuclear shell model of atomic nucleus. She developed a mamatical model for structure of nuclear shells. She h earned her doctorate for writing a sis on ory of possible two-photon absorption by atoms. It was difficult to prove it through an experiment at that time but later on when laser was developed sis was proved.
