Norwegian spy could return home any time: Russian Foreign Minister

Foreign Ministers of Russia, Sergei Lavrov speaking to a Norwegian media said that a Norwegian man sentenced to jail for spying could return home anytime soon.

In a statement to rwegian media, Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Lavrov said that a rwegian man sentenced to jail for spying could return home anytime. Lavrov h arrived in Arctic town of Kirkenes in rway on 75th anniversary of its liberation by Red Army, according to a video posted on October 25 on Russian foreign ministry’s channel.
A Russian commission said documents of official pardons h been passed to President Vlimir Putin on Thursday.

Berg mitted to spying

recommendation to release Frode Berg, 64, jailed for spying comes on eve of a ceremony commemorating Soviet liberation of rth rway. Berg is a retired guard of rwegian-Russian border and was detained in December 2017 and sentenced to jail for 14 years after being caught in garing intelligence about nuclear submarines. He appealed t guilty to charges of espion on behalf of rway. Berg mitted acting as a courier for rwegian intelligence but said that he h little kwledge of any mission. His lawyer,  Ilya vikov, said at time of sentencing that Berg would t appeal against verdict and would inste seek a pardon from president.

Berg was accused of delivering envelopes

Moscow's Commissioner for Human Rights said on Thursday that pardoning commission h sent required documents to presidential ministrative office. Frode Berg revealed that he was delivering envelopes to a Russian source on behalf of rwegian military intelligence. He said he was t aware of what was inside it. According to reports, Berg was accused of delivering envelopes containing cash and instructions from rwegian intelligence. Berg's wife blamed rwegian intelligence service for putting her husband at risk and urged rwegian government to take steps to bring him home. rway shares its Arctic border with Russia and for deces y h friendly relations. But ties have worsened when Russia annexed Ukraine's Crimea peninsula.
