Washington: Republican Vice Presidential nominee JD Vance was recently "caught lying" on camera over the egg prices in his campaign video. He claimed that egg prices had surged to $4 due to inflation stemming from the Biden administration's policies. However, a price board directly behind him showed that the eggs were actually being sold for $2.99.

Vance visited a supermarket in Reading, Pennsylvania, in an effort to win over voters before the upcoming November elections, aligning himself with Donald Trump . While shopping with his two children, he pointed out the egg prices to emphasize inflation, blaming President Joe Biden and VP Kamala Harris. Critics, however, responded by arguing that he had misrepresented the facts.

“Looking at the prices here, things are way too expensive because of Kamala Harris’ policies.” His son cut into a carton of eggs. Vance said, “Yes, buddy. Want some eggs? Let’s talk about eggs. Because these guys actually eat about 14 eggs every single morning,” referring to his children.

Vance stated that before Kamala Harris took office eggs were being sold for $1.50 a dozen cheaper.

He then claimed, “Eggs, when Kamala Harris took office, were short of $1.50 a dozen. Now a dozen eggs will cost you around $4.”

“Thanks to Kamala Harris’ inflationary policies. Pennsylvania actually has seen some of the worst grocery price increases of the entire nation, and again, it is because she cast a deciding vote on the inflation explosion act,” he said.

Users on social media platform X quickly pointed out the contradiction saying that his own campaign video suggests that eggs were being sold at $2.99 a dozen.

Netizens Fact-Check Vance's Claims

A user pointed out that even if Vance's claims about egg prices are accurate, the Trump campaign is ignoring the fact that the country was grappling with a pandemic.

“It’s really disingenuous for Trump’s campaign or MAGA to pretend we weren’t in the middle of a pandemic when Trump left office. Of course prices were lower. If Trump was still in office with his policies, inflation would be at 20% right now,” a user wrote.

Senator JD Vance (R-Ohio) officially accepted the nomination as Donald Trump 's vice-presidential running mate at the Republican National Convention held in July.

US Presidential elections are scheduled to be held on November 5 this year.
