United Nations has designated vember 25 as International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women to highlight issue of violence against women and girls. Over years, it has evolved as a global, widespre initiative that involves 16 Days of Activism along with 'UniTE' campaign which was launched by UN Secretary-General in 2008. This year's me is 'Orange World: Generation Equality Stands Against Rape' marking launch of days of activism that will conclude on December 10, 2019. vember 25 also marks efforts by UN to prevent and end violence against women at global, regional, as well as national levels and shows that re is widespre impunity on sexual violence and rape.
Why 'Orange' World?
For 2014, official me framed by UN Secretary-General's campaign UniTE to End Violence against Women was 'Orange your neighbourhood' and for 2018, it was 'Orange World: #HearMeToo' and for 2019, it is 'Orange World: Generation Equality Stands Against Rape'. re is a repetitive use of colour, orange because according to UN, Orange symbolizes a brighter future, free of violence. colour also serves as a means of demonstrating solidarity in elimination of all forms of violence and it is refore used as symbolic colour for International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women. As a show of solidarity, UN kicked off this day by turning world orange and starting 16 days of activism.

Under this year's me, UN urges people around world to get involved in campaign by learning more about rape culture, listening to survivors, and spreing ir stories. re should be a start of conversations around word, 'consent', and 'rape'. According to UN, one of main challenges in prevention of rape and sexual harassment is lack of understanding among people of issue that 'only yes means yes' which is used by consenting ults in a situation. Because small actions can make big impacts, netizens have utilised '#OrangeWorld' to raise awareness for Generation equality and sharing ir stories to highlight violence against women and to put an end to same.
