Pakistan is making all attempts to peddle fake news in India regarding the situation in Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Even as India is countering the fake claims and the forces are maintaining paece in the state, Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan is facing flak in his own country due to a number of issues. Pakistan's economy is in dire condition and the Imran Khan-led govt had inflicted extreme pressure on media and is doing a crackdown on the Opposition. Here are five instances that are proof of Imran Khan's 'Naya Pakistan' to be a fake claim and a testimony of what he is facing domestically.

  1. Even as Imran Khan and his government are taking numerous actions against India after the scrapping of Article 370, claiming that it is 'illegal' to decide on a 'conflicted area' unilaterally, economy in Pakistan is deteriorating. On Thursday, the stock market in Pakistan went a record low - down by 800 points. Incidentally, Pakistan cut off trade ties following J&K integration. It is being said that ever since India integrated with J&K by revoking Article 370, its market has gone down.

  2. Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Monday asked Opposition parties to come together on Kashmir, saying the country should have a united stand on the issue. Addressing the media in Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir where he celebrated Eid al-Adha and visited a refugee camp, Qureshi said the entire "Pakistani nation and political leadership is united on the issue of Kashmir and one voice will be sounded on August 14 in support of Kashmiris. We have our differences...But there is no difference on the issue of Kashmir. If there was any difference, a joint resolution would not have been passed," he said. This statement by Qureshi is a proof of the divide within Pakistan among the political parties and their hostility to Imran Khan.

  3. As Pakistan's Parliament met to discuss the abrogation of Article 370 by India, chaos erupted. On Wednesday, what came as a massive embarrassment for Imran Khan in the joint parliamentary session of Pakistan Parliament, war-of-words broke out between Minister Fawad Chaudhry and Mushahid Ullah Khan.

As Khan was speaking in the House, Chaudhry interrupted him by making some comments and the senator, in turn, called the minister a "dabbu" (timid). Khan said: "I left you at home and you are back." To this, Chaudhry responded saying that he will hit the minister with a shoe. Mushahid Ullah Khan then infuriates and allegedly says: "You shameless person. I had tied you up at home and you came here dog." He then says " Shut up. You don't have manners. You will learn it. Sit down." While the speaker of the House tries his level best to stop the ruckus by asking both the leaders to not use 'unparliamentary language' and to sit down and let the other person talk, the two leaders do not stop.

  4. Meanwhile the crackdown on Opposition continued as Maryam Nawaz, Pakistan's former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's daughter, was arrested from the Kot Lakhpat jail in Lahore on Thursday in a money laundering case while she was on her way back from visiting her father, who is lodged in the same prison. On July 31, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Maryam was questioned by the anti-corruption agency officials in connection with the alleged money laundering and income beyond means charges against her and her family. According to an official press release issued by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Maryam and her cousin Yousuf Abbas have been arrested in connection to the Chaudhry Sugar Mills (CSM) case.

  5. Earlier, as India was deploying troops in Jammu and Kashmir before abrogation of Article 370, Opposition parties across Pakistan staged massive protest against Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on July 30. All the main opposition parties held protest rallies accusing Imran Khan’s government of ruining the economy and seeking to intimidate and silence its opponents. There has been a crackdown on the Opposition under the rule of Khan.

Amid mounting economic problems in the country, the protests were dubbed as the black day protest and highlighted the tensions in the country a year after Imran Khan came to power. While there has been a surge in fuel prices, and a plunge in the value of currency, there are additional charges of allegations of media censorship and curb on voices of dissent. As the Oppostion marches intensified on Thursday, the cities of Quetta, Lahore and Karachi boomed with Anti Imran Khan sentiments.
