Troubles over basic ammenities continue to haunt Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, after the Pakistan Secretriat was issued a notice by the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) of disconnection over non-payment of bills on Wednesday, according to Pakistani news media. Khan's Secretriat reportedly faces disconnection as he has electric bills running into crores of rupees due for payment. News agencies claim that the Pakistani Secretriat currently owes over Rs 41 lakh to IESCO. The Secretriat also owes over Rs. 35 lakh in dues for the previous month, as per news reports.
Power cuts in Pakistan
Reports also claim that according to sources close to IESCO, the Secretariat has failed to pay the dues in spite of several reminder notices. "This is a recurrent problem with the Secretariat. We will cut off the power supply if dues are not paid," an IESCO source said in an interview. Pakistani news media claim that power cuts have been an imminent problem in the recent years. This has been a major source of discontent among the people with power cuts extending up to half a day in the summers, as per news reports.
Flies swarm over Karachi
Previously on Wednesday, a man in Pakistan had moved the Sindh High Court over Karachi's fly infestation, urging the Pakistan authorities to take steps over this issue. A swarm of flies had invaded Karachi following the recent monsoon in Pakistan, after the city was inudating with piles of garbage and undisposed animal waste all over. The petition filed against the fly infestation accentuated how the Pakistan authorities are not doing enough to curtail the filth in the city. The petition further highlighted the rising instances of dengue and Condo virus due to the incompetence and indifference over garbage disposal and the subsequent fly infestation in Karachi.
Pak govt fails to tackle garbage issue
In a bid to tackle the issue, the Pakistan government initiated 'Let's Clean Karachi' campaign over two weeks ago. But the initiative failed to operate steadily in Pakistan's financial hub. Meanwhile, the Pakistan's Sindh government has called for special prayers to get rid of the menance of flies in the Assembly, instead of taking garbage disposal measures. The Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is yet to address this issue. But his government is currently attempting to distracting the attention of the local people by raising international issues and creating a hue and cry over Kashmir.
Imran Khan and Kashmir
On the other hand, Imran Khan has repeatedly meddled into Kashmir issue since the Indian Parliament abrogated article 370. He has repeatedly fearmongered and peddled fake news on Kashmir's ground situation. He has also faced defeat on an international scale after he called for global mediation into the bilateral issue. US President Trump, who had initially offered to mediate in the Kashmir issue, backtracked later. Pakistan's ally China too had approached the UNSC for an informal meeting on the issue after Khan egged them to do so. But, the UNSC to favoured India- calling Kashmir issue bilateral. India has all the while maintained its stance that the abrogation of article 370 is an internal matter while any other disputes regarding Kashmir will be solved bilaterally.
