In Pakistan, 'Nawab Of Junagadh' appoints son its Wazir-e-Azam; 'Will Free It from India'

Even after being highly criticized, there are some people still in Pakistan who think that the former princely state of Junagadh is part of their country.

In August this year, debt-distressed Pakistan released a new political map which depicted all of Kashmir as being part of its territory, as well as regions of Sir Creek and Junagh. For its absurdity, Prime Minister Imran Khan-led country was highly criticised by India in a strong-worded response.

Now, re are some people still in Pakistan who think that former princely state of Junagh is part of ir country.  family of former Nawab of Junagh who fled to Pakistan in 1947 after it was created has expressed gratitude to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan. According to media reports, last week, so-called ‘Nawab of Junagh’, Jehangir Khan, me his son Ahmed Ali, next ‘Wazir-e-Azam’ (Dewan) of Junagh.

'Junagh is part of Pakistan': Jehangir Khan

“I will always tell Modi that 'Prime Minister Modi, Junagh was part of Pakistan yesterday, it is part of Pakistan today and will be part of Pakistan tomorrow as well',” Jehangir Khan said at an event 'official recognition ceremony of Dewan of Junagh state'  in Karachi. He also claimed that India has "illegally" occupied Junagh. Meanwhile, newly appointed Dewan Ahmed Ali also asserted that he will ensure Junagh’s "independence" from India.

He also ded that he will le a campaign to let world know that Junagh is part of Pakistan. Ahmed Ali also said that China and Russia have endorsed Pakistan's new political map. Last month, 'Nawab' said a secretariat of Junagh should be established in Islamab to bring princely state closer to Pakistan. He said November 9 was observed as a 'black day' as on this day in 1947, India occupied territory of Junagh. occupation was against international law and norms, he ded.

He recalled that in October 1947, during his visit to Pakistan his grandfar Nawab Mahabat Khan signed an agreement of accession to Pakistan. During visit, his grandfar held a meeting with Mohamm Ali Jinnah and decided to accede state to Pakistan. treaty of accession was ratified by Constituent Assembly of Pakistan. In absence of his grandfar, India landed its troops and occupied territory of Junagarh on November 9, 1947, he said, according to Dawn. 

This is not first time Pakistan has tried to portray Junagh as being part of its territory. 2012 Atlas of Islamic Republic of Pakistan also portrayed Junagh as a separate territory.

India termed Pakistan’s move as an exercise in political absurdity.

“We have seen a so-called ‘political map’ of Pakistan that has been released by Prime Minister Imran Khan. This is an exercise in political absurdity, laying untenable claims to territories in Indian State of Gujarat and our Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and of Lakh. se ridiculous assertions have neir legal validity nor international credibility,” Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.
