As Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu attended the opening ceremony of the Kartarpur corridor on Saturday, as the chief guest in Pakistan, he sent a "Munnabhai MBBS-style hug" to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and heaped praises on Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan. Sidhu was invited by Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan for the inauguration and was later given permission by MEA.

Speaking at the event, Sidhu said: "It is the first time since partition that the boundaries have been dismantled. No one can deny my friend Imran Khan's contribution. I thank Modi ji also for it. I am thanking Modi ji also, it doesn't matter if we have political differences, doesn't matter if my life is dedicated to the Gandhi family. I am sending a Munnabhai MBBS-style hug to you Modi sahab for this," said Sidhu. He also called Imran Khan, as "king of hearts" and said, "Sikandar (Alexander) won the world with fear but you won hearts all over the world. he also called Khan his 'yaar dildar'.

Kartarpur corridor

The 4.2-km long Kartarpur corridor is a border corridor between India and Pakistan that will connect the Sikh shrines of Dera Baba Nanak Sahib and Gurdwara Darbar Sahib. The inauguration will facilitate the Indian Pilgrims to visit Gurudwara Kartapur Sahib in Pakistan. Indian pilgrims of all faiths and persons of Indian origin can use the corridor and the travel will be visa-free. However, each visitor would be required to pay a fee of USD 20. India had requested Pakistan not to charge the Indian pilgrims but Pakistan refused to waive the fee. India and Pakistan signed the agreement on October 23.

PM dedicates Kartarpur to the country

The Prime Minister while inaugurating Integrated Check Post of the KartarpurCorridor at Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur said: "Today being present here at this holy land, I feel delighted. This is my honour that I am dedicating the Kartarpur corridor to the country. I am as delighted as you all feel during ‘Kar Seva’. I congratulate every Sikh around the world," the Prime Minister said. "Today at this holy land in front of Guru Granth I pray that his blessings always stay with me. The opening of Kartarpur Sahib corridor before the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji has brought us immense happiness," he further added.
