Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that former Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh would attend the Kartarpur Corridor inauguration ceremony on November 9 as a common man. Qureshi told reporters in his home town Multan on Saturday that Singh has accepted his invitation and would attend the scheduled opening as a common man rather than as a special guest, Dawn newspaper reported.
Qureshi on Manmohan Singh visit Kartarpur Corridor inauguration
"He is welcome even as a common participant," Qureshi said.
The proposed corridor will connect Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur with Dera Baba Nanak shrine in the Gurdaspur district of Punjab and facilitate the visa-free movement of Indian pilgrims, who will have to just obtain a permit to visit Kartarpur Sahib, which was established in 1522 by Guru Nanak Dev.
PM Modi attacks Congress over Kartarpur Sahib
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally in Haryana's Sirsa on Saturday. While addressing the rally, PM Modi spoke about the upcoming 550th Prakash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and also updated everyone about the completion of Kartarpur Corridor. PM Modi attacked Congress party and said that it did not do anything to eliminate the 4 km distance in the last 70 years.
"The distance between us and the holy place of our guru Kartarpur Sahib is going to end. The opportunity has come after seven decades. Seventy years have gone. What can be a bigger misfortune that we had to see the big centre of our faith through binoculars for seven decades. Those responsible for deciding the boundary in 1947, did they not think that the devotees and the Guru should not be separated by four kilometres. After this, should Congress not have tried to remove the distance in the last 70 years?"
About Kartarpur Sahib
Kartarpur Sahib is located in Pakistan's Narowal district across the Ravi River, about four kilometers from the Dera Baba Nanak shrine. In a major initiative last November, both India and Pakistan had agreed to set up the Kartarpur Corridor. The corridor will connect Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur with Dera Baba Nanak shrine in the Gurdaspur district of Punjab and facilitate the visa-free movement of Indian pilgrims, who will have to just obtain a permit to visit the holy Gurudwara. Kartarpur Sahib was established in 1522 by Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev.
