The grim and bleak censorship in Pakistan was put to display yet again after Pakistan's Opposition leader Maryam Nawaz Sharif's speech was muted on live news telecast.
Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's daughter and staunch critique of the Pakistan government in a tweet lambasted the Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan by sharing a video in which her voice was muted at a live telecast on a Pakistani news channel amid a rally.
In a tweet, she said, "want to see what censorship looks like? Here it is! It is the truth that is feared, not the lies"
In a post-midnight rally on Sunday in Pakistan's Mandi Bahauddin, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's vice president raised slogans against Khan amid an ocean of people and said that the 66-year-old cricketer-turned-politician does not have any legitimate right to rule Pakistan.
Addressing Khan in her speech, she said: "Give your resignation! Go home!" and urged the crowds to chant along with her, Dawn News reported.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Maryam Nawaz had even released a video clip purportedly showing an accountability court judge allegedly confessing that he was "blackmailed and forced" to convict former premier Nawaz Sharif in a corruption case.
Sharif has been serving a seven-year prison term at the Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore since December 24, 2018, when the accountability court convicted him in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills case - one of the three corruption cases filed in the wake of the apex court's July 28, 2017 order in Panama Papers case.
Sharif and his family have denied any wrongdoing and allege that the corruption cases against them were politically motivated.
The video purportedly shows the judge speaking to Butt and claiming that he was coerced to hand down the prison sentence against Sharif despite there being no proof of corruption against him.
