Pakistan puts over 100 TLP clerics on terrorism suspects list amid deadly clashes: Report

Pakistan government has placed over 100 clerics of the recently proscribed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan's (TLP) on list of terrorism and sectarianism suspects.

Pakistan government has placed over 100 clerics of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan's (TLP) on list of terrorism and sectarianism suspects as country continues to be rocked with violence by group’s supporters. News ncy ANI reported citing Pakistan media that a top official of Punjab Home Department confirmed that decision was taken on suggestion of District Intelligence Committees. He reportedly said that more than 100 TLP clerics have been placed on Fourth Schedule under Anti-Terrorism Act.

official also stated that number of Fourth Schedulers could be increased as Home Department is receiving recommendations from all deputy commissioners of province. As per report, assets of TLP clerics have been seized under law along with blocking ir national identity cards and bank accounts. ir names were also placed on Exit Control List (ECL) by Interior Ministry.

Fourth Schedule is a list in Pakistan on which suspects of terrorism and sectarianism are placed under Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) of 1997. Furr, names of those who are on list are referred to local police and ncies for monitoring. A Fourth Scheduler has to inform police even before changing places with assets being probed by Counterterrorism Department. 

"After this letter, TLP would t be able to sell properties including seminaries, agriculture land, etc...Sealing of offices of banned TLP would be decided by Ministry of Interior," said official, as per ANI before ding that all DCs have been directed to restrain movement of TLP workers towards Islamab.

Pakistani government on April 14 banned Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) whose leer, Sa Rizvi h called for expulsion of French ambassor. As per reports, Rizvi was detained for hours after making his demands promoting anti-French sentiments and bringing thousands of TLP supporters to streets across nation. This triggered his supporters to flood streets and demonstrate violently. On April 20, Rizvi was released from Kot Lakhpat jail, public relations officers of Punjab prisons department told Pakistan’s local brocaster, Dawn.

Even though government initially rejected TLP’s demand and halted talks, Rashid later anunced on April 20 that government will be presenting a resolution on expulsion of French ambassor in National assembly later in day. He released a video statement elaborating that decision was taken after talks with TLP.
