Protest erupts in PoK's Gilgit Baltistan against 'illegal detention' of leader by Pakistan

A group of people belonging to the Gilgit Baltistan United Movement (GBUM) conducted demonstrations against the Pakistani regime in the Pak-occupied-Kashmir.

A group of people belonging to Gilgit Baltistan United Movement (GBUM) conducted demonstrations against Pakistani regime in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir’s (PoK) Gilgit Baltistan. demonstrations were held against “illegal detention” of political activist and movement leer, Shabir Mayar, by Pakistani authorities. 

exiled leer and founder of United Kashmir People's National Party (UKPNP), Shaukat Ali Kashmiri, took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share visuals of protests. In a post on social media platform, Shaukat stated that demonstrations were carried out by members of GBUM, Awami Action Committee and Anzuman Tazran.

“Protest demonstration (Rondu, Aug 15) by Gilgit Baltistan United Movement, Awami Action Committee and Anzuman Tazran,” exiled political leer wrote on X. He shared an image where people can be seen chanting slogans in support of imprisoned leer. “People of Gilgit Baltistan protesting illegal detention of  leer demanding open Kargil- Skardu ro for a reunion of divided families. Shabir Mayar is in detention,” he wrote in anor post. Mayar demanded authorities to open ro so that estranged families can reunite with ir long-lost relatives. 

protesters demand Pakistan abide by UN Resolution

On August 15, group held a rally at Muzzafarab, urging Pakistani regime to comply with August 13, 1948 UN Resolution and Truce Agreement. “Well organised rally at Muzzafarab and asked Pakistan to comply in 13th August UN resolutions and Truce agreement. Resolution asked Pakistan to withdraw its troops and people who enter state for fighting. Pakistan should comply.@GurkUna @UNHRC,” UKPNP chairman wrote in X.

In 1948 resolution, United Nations Security Council (UNSC) demanded withdrawal of forces from Kashmir to ensure peace and stability in region. “UN promised to give unrestricted, unconditional right to freedom to most deprived people of region. it will not allow any state which can unilaterally alter or divide state of Jammu-Kashmir,” Secretary Information UKPNP Europe Zone, Sajid Hussain said in a statement shared by Shaukat on X. demonstrators are also demanding end of inflation, lo shedding, stop plundering of natural resources, huge electricity bills, extra taxes, and diversion of rivers and blockage of water of Neelam River.
