The US has expressed concern over the 'detention' of Pak women rights activist Gulalai Ismail's father in Pakistan and continued harassment faced by her family

United States has expressed concern over 'detention' of Pakistani women rights activist Gulalai Ismail's far in Pakistan and continued harassment faced by her family. Taking to Twitter Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs on Friday has urged Pakistan to uphold rights of citizens.

Retweeting aforementioned tweet by Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, Ismail wrote, "U.S State Department is concerned about detention of my far. By persecuting citizens for exercising ir human rights Pakistan is damaging its own reputation." Pakistani women rights activist Gulalai Ismail, who is currently in US on Thursday said that her far was picked up by "men wearing militia dress" in Peshawar. Ismail termed abduction of her far in Peshawar an attempt to terrorise women of Pakistan and ors who dare to use ir "conditional rights".

"Abduction of my far is an attempt to terrorise women of Pakistan who've got fars' backs; to stifle dissent, to terrorise people who dare use ir conditional rights," women rights activist has said in ar tweet. 

Ismail mand to escape Pakistan to seek political asylum in United States in September after being accused of treason. She reached US months after she was arrested and released for holding a protest demonstration outside National Press Club in Islamab.

About Gulalai's activism

Gulalai Ismail, chairperson of Aware Girls, a n-governmental organisation, is a recipient of International Humanist of Year Award from International Humanist and Ethical Union. Gulalai, daughter of human rights activist Muhamm Ismail, co-founded NGO Aware Girls in 2002 with her sister Saba Ismail. objective behind setting up NGO was to challenge culture of violence and oppression of women in rural Khyber Pakhtunkhwa area in rth-west of Pakistan. In May 2019, Pakistan police h accused her of "seditious speeches and inciting people to attack state institutions”.
