Peru mayor marks letter to president with blood

The mayor of a town in Peru sent a letter marked with a bloodied hand print to President Martín Vizcarra protesting against the lack of medical equipment provided by the government to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.

Mayor Arturo Fernández sent the letter to the president on Friday and posted a video of himself imprinting his bloodied hand on the letter saying it represented "hundreds and thousands of people here in Peru."

He specifically criticised the government for money spent on advertising social distancing measures, and for lockdown rules imposed as well as underfunding in medical supplies.

The mayor in question is under investigation by health authorities in Peru for claiming that chlorine dioxide can be used to treat the coronavirus.
