Philippines probing its first potential case of SARS-like virus: Report

The health authorities in Philippines are inquiring its potential first case of the SARS-like virus or coronavirus that has already infected hundreds in China.

According to international media reports, a five-year-old child recently arrived in Philippines from central Chinese city of Wuhan and has been hospitalised since with flu symptoms. However, authorities are still t sure wher it is same one that has reportedly killed four people in China and sickened people in three or Asian countries. 

Philippine health secretary Francisco Duque at a press briefing said, “ child is considered a person under investigation. Samples from child were sent to a lab in Australia for furr testing and authorities are awaiting results”.

health department furr said that child was alrey showing symptoms like fever, throat irritation and cough before arriving in central of Cebu with parents. Three or travellers from China were also checked by authorities at ar airport, however, y did t show any symptoms of virus. World Health Organisation has also issued a warning about virus from Wuhan. 

World Health Organisation (WHO) has furr also anunced on January 20 that it will assemble an emergency committee on new coronavirus (2019-nCoV) discovered in China under International Health Regulations. meeting will be heed by Director-General of WHO, Tedros ham Ghebreyesus and members will meet on January 22 to decide wher outbreak constitutes a public health emergency of international concern, along with discussing recommendations to man spre of virus.

It was WHO which confirmed first case of a vel coronavirus outside China, which has same family as dely SARS virus. UN health ncy h said that person travelling from Wuhan, China was hospitalised in Thailand and is recovering from illness. According to organisation, vel coronavirus is a new strain in large family of coronaviruses (CoV) which was t identified in humans before.

CoV can cause illnesses ranging from common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). CoV is zootic which means such viruses transmit between animals and humans.
