Netizens mistook story to represent precarious state of animals in current forest fires raging across Amazon. y presumed that chimpanzee clung to a man begging him for shelter and safety from forest fire. Contrary to claim me online, picture was originally taken in 2017. It is actually a picture of a female Gorilla from an orphan in Democratic Republic of Congo in central Africa. young female was attempting to cheer up her human caretaker by hugging and holding him.

A simple reverse im search on viral picture revealed several links to various websites that h alrey published this picture earlier. Multiple inernational publications carried story and picture in 2017.

articles mentioned that picture was originally taken by photographer Nelis Wolmarans who captured rare moments of a female Gorilla named Matabishi trying to cheer up her caretaker Matthieu by imitating his s expressions. This shoot took place at Senkwekwe Mountain Gorilla Orphan in Democratic Republic of Congo in central Africa.
