PM Modi in Russia Day 2: Eastern Economic Forum; Japan & Malaysia PMs

After the 20th India-Russia Annual Summit held on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be attending the 5th phase of Eastern Economic Forum on Thursday.

After headlining the 20th India-Russia Annual Summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to attend the fifth edition of Eastern Economic Forum on Thursday. Day 1 of his two-day visit to Vladivostok saw him holding a joint meeting with Putin and witnessed an exchange of 15 agreements. They also announced new areas of cooperation between the two countries and PM Modi, in a tweet, labeled the meeting as a “landmark” event. In their joint address, Putin and PM Modi also agreed that both countries are against "outside influence" in the internal matters of any nation.  

PM Modi’s schedule for Day 2 

In the series of engagements lined up for PM Modi in Vladivostok, he is first scheduled to meet the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe at 6 am as per Indian Standard Time (IST). Following his meeting with Japanese PM, he will then meet with the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dr. Mahathir Mohamad at 6:45 am IST and President of Mongolia, Khaltmaagiin Battulga at 7:30 am. After a visit to India Business Pavilion at 9:50 am PM Modi will then head to ‘Working Lunch of Leaders’ at 10:00 am. All the leaders from the participating countries will then be proceeding towards the 5th Eastern Economic Forum held at Far Eastern Federal University in  Korpus S at 11:30 am. Lastly, after a joint visit to the Fetisov Arena for a Judo Tournament at 3:00 pm PM Modi will board the plane to Delhi at 4:40 pm in the evening.

Key Takeaways from India-Russia Annual Summit 

PM Modi and President Putin highlighted and discussed important issues concerning India and Russia during their meeting at the 20th India-Russia Annual Summit on Wednesday. A few of the issues that were highlighted include, both the countries’ opposition to "outside influence" in the internal matters, a proposal to have a full-fledged maritime route between Chennai and Vladivostok. Discussions on ways to strengthen cooperation in trade and investment, oil and gas, mining, nuclear energy, defence and security, air and maritime connectivity, transport infrastructure, etc. Putin also added that the India-Russia relationship is "strategic and has a special privileged nature". They also discussed the progress of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant and Russia’s assistance on the Gaganyaan project. Also, 15 agreements were signed between PM Modi and the Russian President in similar areas.
