Washington: Donald Trump , President-elect of United States (US), has nominated Matw Whitaker, a former Attorney General, as US ambassor to NATO, also called North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. Trump, while naming Whitaker as ambassor to NATO, described him as a "strong warrior and loyal Patriot" who will vance and defend US interests, strengn relationships with NATO allies, and stand firm against threats to peace and stability. Whitaker has been a strong supporter of Trump, who is set to take on one of most prominent diplomatic roles during President-elect's second term.
Notably, Whitaker served as Acting Attorney General in Trump's first ministration and was a critic of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into possible ties between 2016 Trump campaign and Russia. Meanwhile, fresh move is seen as a significant development in Trump's second ministration, and Whitaker's nomination is expected to impact US foreign policy and national security.

‘Strong Warrior and a Loyal Patriot’: Trump Praises Whitaker
Experts suggested that during Trump’s first term, US relations with NATO were strained as president repeatedly criticised alliance, accusing European members of not contributing enough to defence spending. On campaign trail this year, Trump continued to voice a tough stance, even suggesting in February that he would encourage Russia to inve NATO countries that failed to meet defence spending targets.
In a statement, Trump praised Whitaker as a "strong warrior" and a "loyal Patriot" who would prioritise US interests and strengn relationships with NATO allies. He ded that Whitaker would confront global threats with a commitment to "Peace and Stability," and maintain "America First" approach that has defined his ministration. "I am pleased to announce that former Acting Attorney General, Matw G. Whitaker, from Great State of Iowa, will be United States Ambassor to North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Matt is a strong warrior and loyal Patriot, who will ensure United States' interests are vanced and defended. Matt will strengn relationships with our NATO Allies, and stand firm in face of threats to Peace and Stability - He will put AMERICA FIRST," Trump said in a statement.

Whitaker previously served as acting attorney general for three months during Trump’s first term and has been an influential figure at America First Policy Institute, a conservative think tank focused on shaping policy for Trump's second term. Whitaker is known for his vocal opposition to special counsel investigation into Russian interference in 2016 presidential election and has consistently aligned himself with Trump’s legal and political agenda.
Trump has not offered detailed foreign policy plans for his second term, but his supporters argue that his "peace through strength" philosophy will help shape international relations and dress ongoing global conflicts, including war in Ukraine and Middle East.

Pertinently, Whitaker's nomination is consistent with Trump's broer pattern of selecting loyalists over those with specific subject-matter expertise. This contrasts with President Biden’s pick for NATO ambassor role, Julianne Smith, who previously served as Biden's deputy national security viser.
