Israel Prime Minister Netanyahu says 'country may start vaccine drive earlier'

Israel's Prime Minister said the country may begin administering coronavirus vaccines earlier than anticipated. Israel announced last week it would begin vaccinating the public on December 27.

On a visit Sunday to a Tel Aviv vaccine facility, Benjamin Netanyahu told reporters that the start date would likely be brought up, without specifying to when exactly.

Israel last week received its first shipment of the Pfizer vaccine and is expected to receive hundreds of thousands of additional doses in the coming days.

Israel said that it will be prepared to inoculate 60,000 people a day.

The country is seeing an upward trend in daily coronavirus cases and after two nationwide lockdowns in the spring and fall, the country is once again considering tightening restrictions.
