Putin and Xi Jinping likely to meet at regional Summit in Uzbekistan next month: Report

Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin will meet at a regional summit in mid-September in the Uzbek city of Samarkand.

Nearly six months after y meet in-person, Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart Vlimir Putin will meet at a regional summit in mid-September in Uzbek city of Samarkand. According to sources of Wall Street Journal, preparation for Jinping's visit to Uzbek has alrey been started in China. Though Chinese official did t confirm any tour of Xi Jinping outside Beijing, sources familiar with trip claimed he would visit on September 15. Besides, US media sources affirmed that officials have also started bilateral meetings on sidelines of summit. Earlier in February, both leers met during Winter Olympics in China-- days before onset of war against Ukraine.

"A trip to Samarkand would underline Xi’s goal of cultivating tighter security relationships with countries that aren’t US allies as a bulwark against Western efforts to contain China," Chinese officials told WSJ. same was reported by Russian news ncy, TASS, in June about Putin's plan to travel to Uzbekistan. However, report did t mention any possibility of meeting with Chinese leer. It is also expected that leers of India, Pakistan, and Turkey are also making plans to attend meeting in person.

Moreover, if leers of China and Russia meet with or countries, it is expected that y will discuss ongoing tensions between US and Taiwan which arose after US Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taipei earlier in first week of this month, reported WSJ. After completing a tour to Uzbekistan, both leers are also expected to be at G20 summit in Bali in vember. It is expected that US President, Joe Biden, will also take part in meeting. Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has said he would participate remotely.
