Russian President Putin declares emergency after 20,000 tonnes of fuel spill into river
Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 3 declared a state of emergency in Norilsk after 20,000 tons of diesel spilled into the nearby river due to leakage.

According to reports, leak took place at a power plant in Krasyarsk Krai following which oil spilled into Ambarnaya River, polluting it well above permissible levels. Putin has criticised firm responsible for spill and for t informing authorities for days.

As per reports, oil spill happened on May 29 and goverr of Krasyarsk Krai region Alexander Uss only learned about incident on May 31. diesel fuel leaked from a damd reserve tank onto a motor ro leing to TPP-3 [rmal power plant]. accident took place at industrial site of Nezhdinski Metallurgical Plant, and part of spilled petrochemicals went into river. Vlimir Putin on June 3 held a meeting on measures being taken to clean up spill from area and river that ultimately flows into Arctic ocean.

Pollution effect
Environmentalists are worried about oil leak as y feel that marine life in region will be affected by spill. As per reports, World Wildlife Fund's Russia branch has said that estimated dam caused to fish and or resources by oil leak could be at 1 billion rubles. cause of leak is still unkwn, however, an investigation is being carried out to determine reason.
