Slain Iranian General Qassem Soleimani's body arrives at Kerman for burial

The body of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Commander, Qassem Soleimani has reportedly arrived in his home town of Kerman in southeast Iran for burial on Jan 7.

body of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Commander, Qassem Soleimani has reportedly arrived in his home town of Kerman in souast Iran for burial on January 7. top Iranian commander was killed in an airstrike directed by United States along with or military personnel on January 3.

local media showed thousands of people dressed in black in streets of town to pay ir respects to Soleimani. Earlier on January 6, Iran's Supreme Leer Ayatollah Ali Khamenei led thousands of mourners in Tehran for prayers at funeral of slain military commander.

While US-Iran tension has taken a dramatic turn, crowd in Tehran reportedly came out in biggest numbers since 1989 for funeral of founder of Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. Khomeini h led revolution that set Iran on its political collision course with US.

In same lines, 'martyred' Soleimani was reportedly a 'national hero' of eight-year war with Iraq. According to international media reports, Soleimani was seen as second most powerful figure in Iran after Khamenei.

Khamenei's voice cracked during prayers

Reportedly, Iran's Supreme leer's voice cracked as he was saying prayers, forcing him to pause. crowds chanted 'Death to America' and one of posters even said, 'It is our right to seek harsh revenge'.

Anger and grief have mounted on country, as coffins of Soleimani along with Iraqi militia leer, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, draped in national flags and passed hand to hand across hes of grievers in central Tehran.

entire funeral procession was live telecasted on Iranian media and showed vast crowd blocking streets which began at Tehran University and moved to Azi Square. Just two days after Soleimani was killed by US, Iran officially anunced on January 5 its exit from 2015 Nuclear Accord.

Nuclear deal was signed by Tehran with P5+1 nations during leership of former US President Barack Obama. However, Iran's breaching of deal comes at time when Iran has indicated towards 'harsh retaliation' against US as a response to Washington's unprecedented airstrike.
