Radiation levels 16 times above normal after fire hit Chernobyl nuclear accident zone

Ukrainian authorities on April 5 reported a spike in radiation levels in the Chernobyl nuclear accident zone, which was hit by a devastating forest fire.

Ukrainian authorities on April 5 reported a spike in riation levels in Cherbyl nuclear accident zone, which was hit by a devastating forest fire. According to reports, fire caused riation levels to rise above rmal in restricted zone around Cherbyl. Yegor Firsov, he of Ukraine's state ecological inspection service, took to Facebook where he informed about b news by sharing a video of Geiger counter showing riation levels 16 times higher than rmal.

Yegor Firsov also wrote that fire has spre to Cherbyl nuclear accident zone of 20 hectares but about 250 acres of forestland was burning since it broke out on April 4. As per reports, 100 firefighters, two planes and a helicopter has been deployed to fight infer. By Sunday morning fire h been contained by firefighters as blaze was visible and riation levels in area became constant. emergency service in a statement said that people living near Cherbyl area are t in danger but increased riation levels did bring some difficulties for firefighters.

Cherbyl disaster

This is t first time when Cherbyl nuclear power plant has been hit by a disaster. In April 1986, Cherbyl nuclear power plant polluted a large part of Europe after its fourth reactor exploded, resulting in immediate death of two operating staff. Due to absorbing high levels of riation, 134 emergency service members were hospitalised in days ahe, of which 28 people lost ir lives. 1986 disaster is considered worst nuclear disaster world has ever seen and it is also one of only two nuclear disasters that have taken place so far, or being Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster that rocked Japan in 2011.
