A Dutch radio station in the Netherlands had to apologise after receiving severe backlash for playing a parody song blaming Chinese food for Coronavirus.

new strain of Coronavirus, in a span of few months, has killed over 1,000 people and infected thousands more in China. While death toll from epidemic is continuing to climb, song  was considered 'discriminatory and inhumane'.

Faced severe backlash

Asian community in Nerlands backlash against song and video and launched a petition called  'We are t viruses' asking people to take a stand against racism and discrimination. 

Apology issued

In ir apology, rio station said that sketch involving song was meant entirely as a satirical pick-up on current events. station went on to say that sketch has caused many a lot of pain and y deeply apologise for that. DJ who played song, Lex Gaarthuis, has also uploed a personal apology on Facebook and claims that he h intention to spre racism or hate against anyone. station also said that y have removed videos from all channels.

Amid unprecedented coronavirus outbreak, Chinese government on February 10 eased some restrictions on work and travel and workers w are reportedly returning back to offices and factories. coronavirus epidemic has alrey claimed 908 lives with 3,052 ditional cases confirmed by health authorities taking overall number of cases to 40,171.

Meanwhile, World Health Organisation informed on Monday that it is convening a global research and invation forum to mobilize international action in response to new coronavirus (2019-nCoV). forum, to be held on February 11-12 in Geneva, is organized in collaboration with Global Research Collaboration for Infectious Disease Preparedness.
