Two days after ICJ ruling, Rohingya women killed, several injured in Myanmar shelling

Two women, one of them pregnant were killed and several people injured after Myanmar troops shelled Rohingya village on Saturday, international news agency said

Two women, one of m pregnant were killed and several injured after Myanmar troops shelled a Rohingya vill on Saturday, an international news ncy reported. attack comes two days after International Court of Justice ordered Myanmar to take all measures to prevent gecide of Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine state. 

'Army shot artillery'

According to media reports, Maung Kyaw Zan, a national member of Parliament for Buthidaung township rrn Rakhine state, said shells were fired from a nearby battalion hit Kin Taung vill in middle of night. Reportedly, re wasn’t any fighting, army just shot artillery to a vill without a battle. Zan furr ded that it was second time that civilians were killed this year.

Soe Tun Oo, a Rohingya villr who lives a mile away from attack site told International media that two houses were destroyed in explosion. He ded that military always shoots heavy weapons around area y suspect. He furr said that it was impossible to flee to or places even though y are scared. However, military denied responsibility and blamed rebels.y accused rebels of attacking a bridge in wee hours. More than 730,000 Rohingya Muslims were forced to flee rrn Rakhine state in 2017 after a military crackdown that U.N has said was executed with gecidal intent.

International Court of Justice on Thursday ordered Myanmar to take all measures to prevent gecide of Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine state. Judge Abdulqawi Ahmed Yusuf on behalf of ICJ said that court "is of opinion that Rohingya in Myanmar remain extremely vulnerable.” court ded that its order for so-called provisional measures intended to protect Rohingya is binding "and creates international legal obligations" on Myanmar. It also ordered Myanmar to submit a report of steps taken by country in accordance with order.
