Washington: Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security Congressman Mark Green (Republican) on the second day of Congressional hearings over the US Secret Service oversights in the attempted assassination of former President of the US Donald Trump said the theory of the roof from where alleged shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks tried to shoot Trump being ‘too steep was pure nonsense.’
Green's response came after Kimberly Cheatle, Director of Secret Service was grilled before a bipartisan group of lawmakers on Monday.

Green said he was 'struck' by how close the unsecured building was from where Crooks took a shot to the stage where Trump was standing in Pennsylvania on July 13.
He said, “What we saw yesterday only raises more questions about how this roof was unsecured. After several of our committee members climbed on the roof, any excuse about the roof being too steep to post a counter-sniper team up there is pure nonsense.”

Green said that protecting the US President and Presidential nominees was the Secret Service's mission and there could be no room for mistakes. Green added, "Unfortunately, that was not the case here. In order to prevent a repeat of this, we must first thoroughly gather and assess the facts and that's why we're here today."
