A gas explosion on September 16 caused fire at a Russian lab that contains samples of Ebola, Smallpox, and Anthrax viruses; no viruses have been exposed

A gas explosion on September 16 caused a fire at a Russian lab that contained samples of Ebola, Smallpox, and Anthrax viruses. Repair work was going on at 5th floor of Russian State Centre for Research on Virology and Biotechlogy (Vector) when blast occurred after a gas cylinder exploded, according to a statement by centre. centre has claimed that dely viruses have been exposed to people as a result of explosion. blast caused dam to structure of lab building. A laboratory worker, however, suffered burns in explosion and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

fire h spre over an area of 30 metres through ventilation system of building, but was ultimately controlled. windows were broken since y were me of glass but  building structure was alright. Koltosvo mayor while speaking to a local news ncy also confirmed that samples containing dely viruses are secure as y were t in lab due to repair going on and re is threat to locals.

lab was founded in year 1974, and it was popularly kwn for developing biological weapons at time of Cold War. It, later on, went on to become one of world's best research centres that develops vaccines and devices for diagsis and treatment of infectious diseases.  scientists at Vector develop vaccines for fatal diseases such as swine flu, AIDS, and Ebola. lab reportedly completed clinical trials for Ebola vaccine in February 2019.

After severe efforts being me in late 1970s, WHO in 1980 declared that smallpox was ericated from world. re are only two places in world w where smallpox survives. One of m is Vector and or one is at US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. Both labs are highly secure and authorities make sure dam is caused to samples. However, re have been few lapses in safety by lab in past which raises doubts among general public.
