According to he of Russia’s sovereign wealth fund, country has reached an agreement in principle to conduct clinical trials of its coronavirus vaccine in Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. According to reports, Russians are working with a pharmaceutical company in Saudi Arabia. y have shared data from Phase I and Phase II trials with ir Saudi partners.

Saudi Arabia to test Sputnik V 

Russian Health Ministry, on August 15, confirmed that country has alrey initiated production of its COVID-19 vaccine, a development that comes days after Moscow anunced ‘world’s first COVID-19 vaccine’. Named Sputnik V, clinically approved vaccine against vel coronavirus has been manufactured by Gamaleya Research Institute in collaboration with Russian Health Ministry. According to reports, vaccine, which is first to go for production, will be rolled out by end of this month. Despite its fast-paced production, drug continues to draw scepticism from around world with many asserting that Russians may have put prestige before safety.

Reports suggest that Russian Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev said that Russia will eng with Saudi scientists and Saudi Health Ministry as Russian government believes that Saudi will be a very strong partner for process of Sputnik V vaccine. As Russia begins production, World Health Organisation said that it was focused on accelerating vaccine development and making sure that it was available to all. Briefing reporters in Geneva, Director-General Tedros ham Ghebreyesus, said that a ‘rapid, fair and equitable’ distribution to all countries was required if a successful vaccine was developed in future.
